HOW TO GET A.I. ART READY FOR PRINTING.

EXAMPLE 1: THE SUPER COMPLEX A.I. ART DESIGN

When we look at this, we see all the things pointed out with green Arrows.

“A.I.” Generated Art ≠ Print Ready Art.

There, we said it.

After Chat GPT gives you an image it still needs a lot of work to get ready to go on a t-shirt (if you want it to look good). Here’s some examples of why...

COMMON PITFALLS OF A.I. GENERATED ART

EXAMPLE 2: “Simple ILLUSTRATIONS”

IMPORTANT THINGS TO CHECK IN COMPUTER GENERATED ARTWORK

  1. COLORS

    • In order to screen print we need solid colors, not a blended mush colors. Gradients and fades can be reproduced, but we still need at least 2 solid colors to create a halftone that will blend together.

  2. FINE DETAILS

    • Would you ever want a tattoo with a blurry outline? We wouldn’t. The finest details will show on a t-shirt. Artwork needs sharp, defined lines and details.

  3. DRAWING MISTAKES

    • We all know that A.I. SUCKS AT DRAWING HANDS. But it’ll miss a lot of other things. Feet can be backwards, face details will be soft and fuzzy, hair get’s really weird (horses don’t have dreadlocks). There’s a lot of details that can get missed by having a computer make a drawing based on everything it found on google. (Ain’t no way this cowboy is hanging on without some reins).

Hey Terminator,

Turn this image into professional screen-print-ready artwork.

SCREEN PRINT REQUIREMENTS:

COLORS:

  • Every fill should consist of ONE perfectly solid color.

Example:

Red = one identical red value everywhere.

Black = one identical black value everywhere.

White = one identical white value everywhere.

Colors must never contain darker edges, lighter edges, shadows, mixed pixels, or simulated lighting.

COLOR LIMITS:

  • Use 8 colors or fewer.

  • Use the fewest colors possible without sacrificing the design.

  • Combine similar colors whenever possible.

  • Use the garment color as part of the artwork whenever appropriate.

  • Design the artwork for economical screen printing.

LINE QUALITY

  • All lines must be crisp, sharp, and clean.

  • Use bold printable line weights.

  • Remove tiny details that won't survive screen printing.

  • Remove isolated dots and visual noise.

  • Simplify unnecessary texture into clean graphic shapes.

  • Every edge should appear suitable for vector tracing.

SHADING

  • If shading is necessary:

  • USE ONLY SMOOTH GRADIENTS WITH 2 COLORS. GRADIENTS WILL NEED TO BE CONVERTED TO A HALFTONE BEFORE PRINT.

DESIGN STYLE:

  • Flat graphic appearance

  • Strong contrast

  • Bold silhouettes

  • Clean negative space

  • Vintage apparel graphic quality

  • Professional screen print aesthetic

DETAIL ACCURACY:

  • Preserve the important features of the original image while simplifying unnecessary detail.

If people are present:

  • Correct anatomy

  • Five fingers on each visible hand

  • Natural proportions

If vehicles or machinery are present:

  • Preserve recognizable proportions

  • Keep major body lines clean and accurate

  • Simplify small mechanical details without changing the overall design

TEXT:

If text is included:

  • Make it clean and legible.

  • Create vector-style lettering.

  • Do not distort characters.

  • Design all lettering so it could easily be converted to outlines.

FINAL QUALITY CHECK

Before considering the artwork complete, inspect the illustration as though viewing it at 400% zoom.

  • Every color should appear as a perfectly clean spot color with razor-sharp edges.

The finished artwork should be suitable for color separation and production on a commercial screen printing press.

To ensure your artwork is optimized for high-quality screen printing, please follow these detailed guidelines:

  1. Text Preparation: Ensure all text is sharp and clear. Convert text to outlines to maintain font integrity and avoid any issues with font availability during the printing process.

  2. Color and Gradients: Use solid spot colors for consistency and accuracy. If using gradients, limit them to two colors for a smooth transition and ensure they are well-defined to avoid banding.

  3. Line Quality: Keep lines crisp and well-defined. Ensure that line work in your art has a sharp contrast to the colors next to them. This ensures that the final print is sharp and detailed, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the design.

  4. Resolution and Format: Provide artwork in a high-resolution format (300 DPI or higher) and in vector format (e.g., AI, EPS, or PDF) to ensure clarity and scalability without loss of quality.

  5. Color Count: Limit the total number of colors in your design to 8 or fewer. This helps in reducing complexity and cost while maintaining print quality.

  6. Detail Check: Pay attention to small details, such as ensuring hands have the correct number of fingers (5 per hand), to maintain the integrity of your design.

  7. Outline and Stroke Consistency: Ensure that all outlines and strokes are consistent in thickness and style throughout the design to maintain a cohesive look.

  8. Artwork Size and Placement: Ensure the artwork is sized correctly for the intended print area and that placement is consistent with the design's intended look.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your artwork is well-prepared for screen printing, resulting in a high-quality final product.
